well this sucks [06 Jun 2008|11:36am]
[ mood | crushed ]

So I'm now in the Homeland. It's great, family's here, old friends, lots of shopping and good food. But there's one thing missing...

LJ!

The gov't has blocked it. I'm ridiculously bereft, actually. I don't even know what to do with myself. I'll just have to find replacement asylums here. Thank god I created this journal before I got back.

I am so incredibly happy right now, I've just seen the most amazing performance EVAR!

Earlier today, my suitemate invited me to go try and get rush tickets for Rent, since the original Mark and Roger (Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal :DDD) were in it. So she and I, along with 2 other friends got to the theater on time and put our names down for the lottery. The guy started calling names out, and 11 or 12 names down the list, he called my suitemate's name. We all jumped about histerically and waited in anticipation for another 2 tickets. Best of luck, another friend was called for 2 more tickets, and we were set.

But get this, as we were walking away, the guy calls out my name! I never win anything, so this was amazing. I ran back and yelled that I didn't need them and the entire crowd cheered.

God, I love living in New York.

Pie crust does not a puff pastry make.

Believe me, it just kinda burns like a pita. Not good for a tart.

In other news... back to school tomorrow! w00t. The only downside, a flight at 8:00 AM, which means I'll have to leave my house at a ridiculous time in the morning for the wonderful Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Yay Homeland Security!!!

Sad news... [04 Oct 2005|08:29pm]

The bodies of two missing tourists - an Atlanta man and his Chinese mother - were found in the wreckage of their rental car in a steep ravine outside the park, authorities said Friday.

There was no suspicion of foul play in the deaths of Xiaodong Yuan, 34, and his mother, Zhaohui Wang, 60, of China, said Scott Gediman, a Yosemite National Park ranger. They were identified Friday by the Mono County coroner's office.

The bodies were found Thursday in Lee Vining Canyon, about 150 feet off the road that plunges from 9,945-foot Tioga Pass at the park's east entrance to the Owens Valley along a steep, winding canyon edge that lacks guardrails in many places.

The mother and son, who had been missing a week, appeared to have died from traumatic injuries when their car rolled down the embankment, but an investigation was underway, according to the Mono County Sheriff-Coroner's Department.

The pair had spent two nights in a cabin at Curry Village and checked out Sept. 23 with all their belongings. A search began after they failed to make a flight Sunday from Las Vegas to Atlanta.

The two had planned to drive the well-traveled Tioga Road, Highway 120, toward Nevada.

I knew him and his mother. He was the president of my mom's alumni association. It's so difficult to believe something this horrible could have happened.

Wow. This guy's life was so exciting and his poetry so inspiring and honest. I'm glad I chose to do a project on this wonderful man.

Where are we going, Walt Whitman? The doors close in an hour. Which way does your beard point tonight?

(I touch you book and dream of our odyssey in the supermarket and feel absurd)

Will we walk all night through solitary streets? The trees add shade to shade, lights out in the houses, we’ll both be lonely.

Will we stroll dreaming of the lost America of love past blue automobiles in driveways, home to our silent cottage?

Ah, dear father, graybeard, lonely old courage-teacher, what America did you have when Charon quit poling his ferry and you got out on a smoking bank and stood watching the boat disappearing on the black waters of the Lethe?

Got this from Cate [04 May 2005|11:08pm]
Instructions:
1. Grab the nearest book. Don't search for something cool. Grab what's actually closest to you.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

I've got a big stack of books next to me so...

1) Boq tried to fan in himself an interest in Shenshen or Pfannee, who certainly were coquettish enough.

2) He gave us conkers when you tried to bust into his megafreighter.

3) His colleagues, however, recognized in this a possible political asset and transmuted it into one of the most successful of all political symbols -- the hard-fisted rail-splitter.

4) This radish was all I was able to pull from the ground this morning.

5) Mirth cannot move a soul in agony.

Told you I had a lot of books... my desk is really unorganized. So try and guess what books these quotes are from. It might be kind of difficult but... whatever...

Cabaret! [29 Apr 2005|10:37pm]

Just got back from Cabaret and all I can say is, WOW. Such an incredible story, told by a wonderful cast. I almost cried at the end, and I never cry at shows or movies. Of course, I'm not going to give away the ending, since everyone should go see it!

The set was amazing, flashing lights, disco balls, it all looked so professional (I think drama paid someone to do it...) My absolute favorite thing was the band. They were all up on stage behind a curtain and they were incredible. You'll have to see it to know what I'm talking about. Also, the talent on stage was awe-inspiring. Cameron Kingsley ruled at his part. I've never been so affected by a character in any show. Even now, remembering his performance, I've got chills running up and down my spine.

Of course, the microphones still suck. Some songs were completely cut out because of bad mikes. We really need to invest in some new ones. Some of the mikes broke down during Music Man too. But since their so expensive, it'll be a while before we have the budget to get some more.

All in all, it was a fabulous show and I had a great time at it. But Music Man was still better.

Hope y'all (it's so fun being southern in New York) are having a blast wherever you are for spring break!

How was my day? Let me tell you [24 Mar 2005|04:56pm]
So the GHSGT for social studies was easy beyond easy. Then again, so were all the other tests. The rest of school was uneventful. We were really loud in French so we had to write a composition. Not fun.

But the real fun started after school.

On the way out of school, on Taylor Road, we got rear-ended by this SUV. Imagine Rachel's little car, and a really big SUV running into it. Victoria and I were in the back but we didn't see what happened. I just heard this squealing and then a huge jolt and my head banged onto the headrest. There's no bump, so hopefully no concussion and whiplash.

But the good thing is that it's totally not Rachel's fault. We'd stopped completely b/c of the crappy traffic on Taylor Road. But the guy (I think he was a junior?) was following us way to closely and just banged right into us. Luckily it was sunny today. It would've sucked if it happened two days ago.

New Layout -- Again [14 Mar 2005|04:55pm]
Since you all complained so much about the text, I changed the layout again to something more readable. Now it's springy and bright. :D

School sure was boring today... Absolutely nothing exciting happened. Except I got a math quiz and test back. 102 on the test, 72 on the quiz. Is that ironic somehow? I have no idea, all literary things have drained out of me with the in-class essay.

And now there are lawn people outside my window blasting their leaf-blowers. It's almost kind of soothing. Odd.

New Layout! [07 Mar 2005|07:16pm]
Well, I've just spent a good hour and 15 minutes on making a new layout for my LJ. An hour and 15 minutes which could've been used to write my cause and effect essay for Lang. In conclusion: this has been time well-spent.

Go look at the pretty!

I have this god-awful cold right now though. I can't stop sneezing and my throat feels totally raw. No singing for me for a few days. And since I went to the doctor's this morning, I missed seeing Taming of the Shrew. In retrospect, that may not be too bad, heard it sucked. But two actors from it came to my Lang class to do a workshop, which was fun. I got to call Alex a "jaded, lily-livered miscreant.

Recap of the Week [04 Mar 2005|12:17am]

Last week was very good to me. I only had two days of school (presidents day then Allstate), which was fantastic. But Allstate was even more fun. We took about 15 people this year, and I was put in Senior Mixed along with Leandro, Josh, and Justin. Our director was funny, nice, inspiring, all the characteristics of a good director. And he let us sing mixed up so that was awesome.

I met a lot of fun people there too. My seat buddy, Mary Helen who's home-schooled, boy-crazy Heather, this guy Matt(hew) who loves Coheed and Cambria, DJ who kept telling me his name wasn't DJ, Michael who made Yale but didn't know how to pay, Alfred who plays the piano incredibly, Eva who is jealous that we're seeing Spam-a-lot, Steven the percussionist, Robert who's auditioning for Julliard, Bethany who's absolutley crazy, and so many other awesome people. Man, I love going to Savannah. The chocolate doesn't hurt either.

Pics )

The Oscars though, sort of deflated my weekend exhiliration. Opinion on the Oscars )

And nothing much is happening now. Except for quite a bit of APUSH work. Must get cracking. Ciao!

The Oh-so advanced South [22 Feb 2005|11:29pm]

This weekend I stopped in Franklin, Carolina (can't remember if it was N. or S.) to eat. Imagine a group of 7 asian people walking into a diner with all white people. Earned quite a few stares. Then we sit down and what do I see on the menu?

Freedom Fries

The rest of the weekend wasn't bad, went skiing, only fell like once going down the slopes. Then was knocked over while getting in line for the lift. Felt like a brick wall slamming into my legs. Not fun. Ass and legs still sore.

Finally saw Finding Neverland! No longer a slacker! YES!
