Last week was very good to me. I only had two days of school (presidents day then Allstate), which was fantastic. But Allstate was even more fun. We took about 15 people this year, and I was put in Senior Mixed along with Leandro, Josh, and Justin. Our director was funny, nice, inspiring, all the characteristics of a good director. And he let us sing mixed up so that was awesome.
I met a lot of fun people there too. My seat buddy, Mary Helen who's home-schooled, boy-crazy Heather, this guy Matt(hew) who loves Coheed and Cambria, DJ who kept telling me his name wasn't DJ, Michael who made Yale but didn't know how to pay, Alfred who plays the piano incredibly, Eva who is jealous that we're seeing Spam-a-lot, Steven the percussionist, Robert who's auditioning for Julliard, Bethany who's absolutley crazy, and so many other awesome people. Man, I love going to Savannah. The chocolate doesn't hurt either.
The Oscars though, sort of deflated my weekend exhiliration.
Kate Winslet was robbed! Although I do consent that Hilary Swank was brilliant, blah blah blah. She already has an Oscar. Share the love! On the other hand, I think Cate Blanchett deserves hers. Note to self: see the Aviator, even if it is epic Scorcese bunk.
Of course we all knew Jamie Foxx would win. You could see it on all of the nominees' faces. It was very cute of him to bring his daughter though. Must watch Ray also. And I was so happy that Morgan Freeman won. He is one of my favorite actors and he's just been passed over for each of his nominations. He was incredible in Million Dollar Baby.
Speaking of Million Dollar Baby, I only saw it like two weeks ago. But it was really good, but sad. It's a tear jerker guys (even though I never cry at movies :D). I also just saw Finding Neverland, loved it, but knew it wouldn't win. Clint is just too strong. It comes with the territory when you play someone like Dirty Harry.
Loved loved loved loved loved how Charlie Kaufman won for Eternal Sunshine, absolutely loved that movie! And his acceptance speech was nice and short and funny. And the guy who won for Best Song, that was great that he sang. I think he wasn't allowed to sing so that was his protest.
Chris Rock shined as the host. His monologue was hilarious ("who is Jude Law and why is he in every movie I've seen last year?!") and Sean Penn's rebuttal. I liked the tribute to Johnny Carson, but it was weird that only Whoopi talked. What happened to the other hosts?
Also, it seemed a lot less... organized this year. There was that loud boom when Jeremy Irons was presenting. And the guy with Chris Rock's mike who like sprinted off stage. And every time they came back from commercial there would be guys running all over the stage. Odd.
Still, it was a great show. I love the Oscars, it is my biggest yearly obsession (unlike HP and LOTR, those are daily obsessions).
And nothing much is happening now. Except for quite a bit of APUSH work. Must get cracking. Ciao!

Ignorance is the curse of God,
Knowledge the wing wherewith we fly to heaven.
